What I do

General repairs, home maintenance and odd jobs.

The everyday stuff that keeps a house running and looking after itself. Most jobs land somewhere between an hour and a day, and I'm just as happy with one small repair as a long list.

  • Repairs & maintenance

Leaky faucets, running toilets, sticky doors, loose handrails, cabinet doors that never sat right. The small things that never seem to get fixed.

  • Mounting & installation

Blinds, shelves, TVs, mirrors, towel bars, light fixtures, ceiling fans and smart thermostats. Hung straight, anchored properly, level the first time.

  • Drywall & touch-ups

Patching holes, filling cracks, sanding, priming and painting the repair back in so you can't tell anything happened. Trim and baseboard work too.

  • Doors, windows & cabinets

Sliding closet doors off their track, screen doors that won't latch, weatherstripping, hinges, hardware and cabinets that need realigning.

  • Decks, fences & outdoor

Gate repairs, loose or rotten boards, wobbly posts, pergola and deck fixes, and the small outdoor jobs that pile up over a Calgary winter.

  • Appliances & assembly

Swapping out a dryer or dishwasher (I can source and haul it too), flat-pack furniture, shelving units, and that boxed thing still sitting in your garage.

Don't see your job on the list?

Ask anyway. I'm comfortable with a wide range of tools and materials, and if it turns out I'm not the right person I'll say so and point you to someone who is.

About Jeff

The guy your neighbours call when something needs fixing.

I've been a builder and a fixer my whole life. My first business was a Fargo truck, a small set of tools, and a knack for helping people get jobs done. Since then I've been a sign-maker, installer, spent a few years on crews building homes, and trained as a mechanical engineering technologist.

I spent the bulk of my career in tech and consulting. After all that time behind a desk, I missed the hands-on work: solving real problems, helping people, and building relationships in my own community. So I came back to what I've always loved. That's the honest reason behind Honest Jeff Handyman, and it's the same care I bring to every job, big or small.

  • Born and raised in Calgary
  • Mechanical engineering technologist
  • Years on home-building crews and as a sign maker
  • Lifelong fixer, builder and problem-solver

Reviews

What neighbours are saying.

Honest work earns honest word-of-mouth. Almost all of my work comes from people passing my name along, which is the part of this job I'm proudest of.

AdonicaPoint McKay, Calgary

I've been calling Jeff for about two years and he's who I call if I need any kind of home repairs.

Over the years he's installed kitchen lights, replaced my kitchen sink, swapped out my dryer (he actually sourced it, delivered it, and installed it), fixed my fridge door, repaired and adjusted my cabinets, and fixed my front hall sliding closet door amongst other things. He even talked me through a furnace issue that I was convinced was going to require a technician visit. It didn't. Jeff figured it out.

What really won me over early on was when he fixed a bunch of things a previous handyman had “repaired” that had already stopped working again. Jeff fixed them properly and they did not require any more fixing, even two years later.

He's honest about what things cost, is prompt, and does things properly the first time. If you're looking for someone reliable and friendly, Jeff is your person.

We hired Jeff for a long list of jobs around the house including repairing our pergola, installing Nest thermostats, replacing the silicone in two showers, landscaping, and a dozen more. He handled everything perfectly including sourcing the landscaping materials and hiring help to reduce the landscaping costs. He's a real professional, affordable, and very easy to communicate with. We'll be calling him again.

Jeff is a superb handyman: skilled, does excellent work AND is a caring and clear communicator. He has done a variety of big and small jobs for us including re-shingling a deck roof, building an outhouse at our cabin, fixing screen doors etc. He is so positive and his work is a thousand times more professionally strong and solid (and efficient!) than I could do myself!

Jeff re-installed my blinds after I had the windows replaced. He communicated promptly, accommodated my timing, did quality work and charged a very reasonable price. Highly recommend!

Questions

The things people ask me first.

What areas of Calgary do you serve?

I'm based in Ranchlands and most of my work is across northwest Calgary, including Silver Springs, Scenic Acres, Tuscany, Arbour Lake, Royal Oak, Citadel, Hawkwood, Edgemont, Dalhousie, Varsity, Brentwood, Bowness and Montgomery. I do take jobs in the rest of the city as well, and regularly work in the southwest.

Do you charge for estimates?

Estimates are free anywhere in northwest Calgary. Anywhere else in the city it's a $30 visit, and if you decide to go ahead with the work I take that $30 straight off your final bill. So if you hire me, the estimate costs you nothing either way.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes to all of it. Honest Jeff Handyman Services holds City of Calgary business licence BL306650, carries general liability insurance, and is covered under WCB Alberta. If you'd like to see the paperwork before I start, just ask and I'll send it over.

What kinds of jobs do you take on?

Everyday home repairs and maintenance: mounting and installation, drywall patching and touch-up painting, doors and cabinets, decks and fences, appliance swaps, furniture assembly, and general fix-it work. Most of my jobs are somewhere between one hour and one day. I'm just as happy doing a single small repair as a long list.

What kinds of jobs don't you take on?

Anything that legally needs a permit or a certified trade. In Alberta that means new electrical circuits and panel work, gas fitting, and major plumbing alterations. I'll happily swap a light fixture, a thermostat, a faucet or a sink, but if your job crosses that line I'll tell you straight away and point you to a licensed trade I trust. I'd rather lose the job than do it wrong.

How soon can you come out?

Usually within 5 to 10 days, and often sooner for small jobs. The fastest way to find out is to call or text me at (403) 803-6862 and tell me what you need. I reply to most messages the same day.

How do you charge?

For predictable jobs I quote a fixed price up front so you know the number before I start. For work that's harder to pin down until I've opened it up, I'll walk you through the likely range and keep you posted as I go. Either way there are no surprises on the invoice.

Do you handle small jobs, or is there a minimum?

Small jobs are welcome. A lot of my work starts with one thing someone has been putting off for months, and it usually turns into a short list once I'm there. If you only have one small item, call me and we'll sort out the most sensible way to handle it.
